Nextian supports quoting new products with optional add-ons — for example, a Business Internet service with QoS, or a Hosted SQL Server with 20 user seats.
The following applies to add-ons:
- In the Salesforce product catalog, add-ons are stored as product parts (products with the record type Part), in line with Salesforce conventions.
- In the user interface (e.g., when creating a quote or viewing service details), these are referred to as add-ons to align with cloud and communications industry terminology.
- Add-ons do not have their own term, requested dates, or work order templates—these values are inherited from the parent product.
- A Term-Based Part is a product part that includes a recurring charge tied to the parent service’s term. This is similar to the Term-Based Subscription flag used in the main product definition.
- Only Term-Based Parts support recurring charges; otherwise, only non-recurring charges are allowed.
