Starting Work Orders

Starting a work order begins its processing:

  • Work order status changes from Pending to In Progress.
  • Tasks that have no dependencies become ready for execution.
ImportantOnly work orders in the Pending status can be started.

Starting a work order with a parent order

Work orders start automatically when a parent order is started.

Starting a work order when starting parent order individual line items

Work orders are started automatically when order line items are started individually.

Starting a work order from the details view

A work order can be also started without controlling the process from the associated order/line item:

  1. Open work order details.
  2. Click Start action in the top right section of the view.

This action has one additional feature — it enables to assign individual users rather than queues using the Assign owners now action:

  1. Check Assign owners now action — a list of all queue task owners in the work order is displayed.
  2. Check which queues should be replaced and select the replacing users (only queues that are used as owners for work order tasks are displayed).
  3. Click Start.

In the example below, all tasks that are assigned to the Delivery queue after case creation, will be assigned to John Doe user:

The selection of users replacing a queue above is limited the queue members, therefore queue memberships must be configured.

Important

For work orders that have a parent order, starting work orders should be for the most part controlled by the parent order; there is no need to start work orders individually, except for administration and troubleshooting purposes or changing assignments (however if latter is often the case, it may suggest that the work order template requires a re-design.
