Order Line Items

Order line items (ORIs) glue together orders with work orders and services — an order contains a list of items:

  • Order (line) items are named ORI-XXXXXXX.
  • When creating an order from a quote, each ORIs are associated with their corresponding quote line items (QLIs).
  • For ‘widget’ products (i.e., products that are not subscription services) the service part is not populated.
  • ORIs do not have their own status, they act as a linkage only (order status is derived from work order statuses).
  • Similar to QLIs, ORIs have their types (e.g., New, Cancel, Replace, etc.).

The relationship between order, order line item, service and work order can be visualized as follows:

For ‘widget’ products (i.e., products that are not subscription services), the service part of OLIs in the diagram above is left empty.

Order of line items on an order

  • When an order created from a quote/opportunity, the order of OLIs on the order follows the order of QLIs on the quote (for consistency).
  • For manually created OLIs their order follows order of creation.
  • Order of OLIs on an order cannot be changed (unlike QLI order on a quote).
  • The Item # in the Order Summary tab is added convenience only, so the OLIs can be easily referenced.
