System Requirements

The minimum requirements to run the Nextian SNMP Agent Simulator are:

  • 64-bit Windows (8 or higher) or 64-bit Linux (Debian or Ubuntu recommended)
  • 1GB of free RAM
  • Network connection with a fixed IP address (private or public)

Actual requirements for RAM, processor, and disk space depend on several factors, including:

  • The number of simulated SNMP agents
  • Agent complexity — the number of OIDs and modifiers
  • Variety of device types — the number different SNMP record files
  • Frequency of agent polling

Recommended hardware for simulating agents of medium complexity (approximately 3,000 OIDs per agent) is as follows:

Active Simulated AgentsCPURAM
< 10002 cores1 GB
1000 – 50004 cores6 GB
5000 – 100006-8 cores12 GB
