Appendix C: Disabling Built-in SNMP Service on Windows

When configured to simulate agents on the standard SNMP UDP port 161, the Nextian SNMP Simulator cannot operate concurrently with the standard Windows SNMP agent (if the latter is running). To resolve this conflict, the Windows SNMP agent must be disabled.

Follow these steps to disable the SNMP agent (administrative privileges required).

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Click Administrative Tools and select Services
  3. Find and double click the SNMP Service to display properties
  4. Select Disable for startup type and click OK
  5. Stop the service if it is running
